I also have the non-dynamo version (X-FD) and other than the lack of electricity, I notice no difference in performance. The Shimano one is rumoured to have the same electricals inside (made by Sanyo I believe). The IM70 roller brake would be compatible with any of their roller-brake dynamo hubs and is supposed to be really very powerful. It does add to the cost though.

@Ian

Birmingham screwdriver is something I heard on QI, it dates back to the days when things were still (perhaps oafishly) manufactured in the UK. Very relaxing to use oneDr C.https://www.blogger.com/profile/10234078254243840589noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8919432872771641105.post-24811020932701198462010-12-03T18:09:15.543+00:002010-12-03T18:09:15.543+00:00Great stuff - especially the mention of the Birmin...Great stuff - especially the mention of the Birmingham Screwdriver! It drags like a bitch and makes a right old whirring racket, but it does a fantastic job :-D It's got me thinking about a dynamo drum braked hub at somepoint in the future, but I'll have to have a little clearout first.Jimhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13570415802364596822noreply@blogger.com
